Consignment Admin Policies
- Preference is given to residents of Central Wisconsin, but we are happy to work with all Wisconsin residents. We will consider residents of other Midwest states on a case-by-case basis and if you are committed to partnering with us.
- It is the author's responsibility to ensure we always have a current email/address/phone number during the consignment period.
- Up to three (3) copies per title will be considered for the initial consignment period of 90 days.
- The book(s) must be delivered and received in-person at the store, we do not pay shipping for consignment titles.
- Books on Main will contact the author when more copies are needed. Any unsolicited books or restock won't be accepted.
- The book will be shelved and/or displayed solely at the discretion of Books on Main and will be placed on either or both of our new (meaning not used) book displays.
- Books on Main will pay an industry-standard rate of 60% of the retail price for consignment items sold.
- Books on Main will provide a check every month when total sales exceed $25. If total sales do not exceed $25 at the end of the month, the balance will roll into the next month. Checks for the month will be provided in the first week of the new month. If the Consignment Agreement ends, the Author will receive full and final payment when picking up the remaining book(s) in the store.
- We review the status of consignment titles at the end of the consignment agreement period. If a title has not sold well, we request the author pick up unsold copies at that time. Copies that are not picked up within 14 days are donated to a charity of our choice.
- Books on Main will do everything within its control to maintain the integrity of the books consigned and secure them during the consignment period. We are not responsible for theft, loss, or damage to books consigned.
- As an independent, local bookstore, we are happy to promote and support local authors. In return, we expect that you support Books on Main by encouraging your readers to purchase books from us or other independent bookstores (if the reader is not local). Please ensure that your promotional material and website/social media pages direct buyer to our store either in person or at Bookshop or IngramDirect
- As a part of the consignment agreement, you agree to promote Books on Main (@booksonmain301 on Facebook and TikTok) as a retail location where your book can be purchased. If you heavily promote buying your book from big chains or online conglomerates (like Amazon), we are unlikely to accept your book.
- Books on Main is not responsible for the creation of any marketing for the author.
- Authors will provide a completed consignment agreement before or at the time when the books are provided to the store.
